If you've ever tried to plan a weekend in Alpharetta with your dog in tow, you already know — this is one of the most pet-friendly corners of metro Atlanta. From wide-open parks and shaded greenway trails to patios where your pup gets a water bowl before you get your menu, you can spend an entire day out and never have to leave your dog behind.
We've spent more Saturdays than we can count chatting with local pet parents at the Alpharetta Farmers Market, and the same question comes up again and again: Where else can I take my dog around here? So we put together this guide — a local's-eye view of the best dog-friendly spots in and around Alpharetta, plus a few favorites just over the line in Roswell, Johns Creek, and Milton.
Leash up, grab the treats, and let's go.
The Best Dog Parks in Alpharetta
Alpharetta has invested seriously in green space, and a few standouts make it easy to give your dog some real exercise.
Wills Park
Wills Park is the granddaddy of Alpharetta parks — over 100 acres just off Wills Road with a dedicated fenced dog park featuring separate areas for small and large dogs. There's plenty of shade, water stations, and benches, plus walking paths around the broader park if your dog prefers a leashed loop over off-leash play. Weekend mornings are the social peak; weekday afternoons are quieter if your pup is shy around big groups.
Big Creek Greenway
The Big Creek Greenway is hands-down our favorite leashed-walk destination in the area. It's a paved, mostly flat multi-use trail that runs for miles through wooded creekside terrain, so it stays surprisingly cool even in Georgia summer. You can enter from several trailheads — Marconi Drive and North Park are the most popular Alpharetta-side access points. Bring water — and a poop bag or three.
Webb Bridge Park & North Park
Both are great for a shorter outing. Webb Bridge Park has open fields and walking paths perfect for sniff-and-stroll sessions. North Park connects directly to the greenway and has plenty of grass to throw a ball before you head home.
Just Outside Alpharetta: Great Stops Within 15 Minutes
A few of our customers' favorite spots are technically across the city line, but they're so close they're part of the same weekend.
Newtown Park (Johns Creek)
Newtown Park has a beautifully maintained fenced dog park with separated small- and large-dog sections, plus an arts amphitheater and walking trails if you're making an afternoon of it. The dog park regulars here are a friendly, familiar bunch — you'll see the same faces if you go more than once.
Old Mill Park & Vickery Creek (Roswell)
For something more scenic, head down GA-9 to Old Mill Park in Roswell. Leashed dogs are welcome on the trails around the historic mill ruins and along Vickery Creek. There's a covered bridge, a waterfall, and the kind of photo backdrop that turns an ordinary walk into a memorable one. (Bring a towel — many dogs can't resist a quick wade.)
Crabapple
The walkable Crabapple district in Milton is a favorite for a slower kind of outing — wander a few blocks, peek into shops, and stop at one of the dog-friendly patios. It's the kind of low-key afternoon that makes you forget you're 30 miles from downtown Atlanta.
Dog-Friendly Restaurants and Patios in Alpharetta
Half the fun of having a dog in this town is grabbing lunch with them at your feet. A few reliable patios:
- Downtown Alpharetta / Main Street — The whole downtown stretch leans dog-friendly. Most patios will set out a water bowl without you asking. Hen Mother Cookhouse (right next to our farmers market booth) is a customer favorite for a weekend brunch with your pup.
- Avalon — The outdoor lifestyle district at Avalon is one of the most dog-welcoming spots in the metro. Many of the restaurants with patio seating happily accommodate dogs, and the central lawn is great for a between-meals stretch.
- Halcyon — A similar vibe to Avalon, slightly less crowded. Plenty of patio options and walking paths between shops.
Always call ahead to confirm patio rules — local restaurants do occasionally change their policies, especially during peak service hours.
Shop Local With Your Dog: Saturdays at the Alpharetta Farmers Market
If you only do one dog-friendly thing in Alpharetta this weekend, make it the Alpharetta Farmers Market on Saturday morning. Held downtown along Main Street through the warm months, the market welcomes leashed dogs and is genuinely one of the best places in town to socialize a pup, run into neighbors, and pick up something fresh for dinner.
You'll find Gussied Up Pet Boutique there every Saturday — our booth sits right off Main Street, just outside Hen Mother Cookhouse. Stop by to say hi, let your dog pick out a new bandana or chew toy, and treat them to a little something for tagging along.

Tips for a Great Day Out With Your Dog in Alpharetta
A few small things make a big difference:
- Bring water. Georgia heat is no joke from May through September. A collapsible bowl in your bag is non-negotiable.
- Skip the asphalt midday. Hot pavement can burn paw pads. If you can't comfortably hold the back of your hand on the ground for seven seconds, it's too hot for your dog.
- Make sure their gear fits. A loose collar or harness can lead to a scary moment in a busy outdoor setting. (Not sure your collar fits right? Our collar measuring guide walks through it in two minutes.)
- Bring more poop bags than you think you need. Every pet parent's universal truth.
- Watch for fleas and ticks if you're on any wooded trail — and check your dog after.
Make a Weekend of It
Here's our favorite Alpharetta dog day, start to finish:
- Morning: Walk a few miles on Big Creek Greenway.
- Late morning: Head downtown to the Alpharetta Farmers Market. Coffee for you, bandana for your dog at our booth.
- Lunch: Patio brunch on Main Street.
- Afternoon: Drive over to Old Mill Park in Roswell for a more scenic, shaded walk.
- Evening: Tired pup, tired you. Everybody wins.
Alpharetta is built for this kind of day, and it only gets better the more you know the lay of the land.
